Deal rationale
SK ecoplant CEO Ahn Jae-hyun said the acquisition was an important step in expanding an environment-centered portfolio. The company described it as a bolt-on using Environmental Facility Management (formerly EMC Holdings, acquired in 2020) as the anchor, giving it 876 t/day of incineration capacity (excluding medical waste) and the No.1 position in Korea. It also said it would invest KRW 3tn through 2023 in eco-friendly new businesses and technology M&A. All shares (100%) of the four companies were to be acquired for about KRW 400bn, subject to price adjustment; the sellers were not named.
