Target

Power-control and smart-grid company founded in 1987 that entered EV charger manufacturing in 2011, producing slow, fast and ultra-fast chargers. Reported as one of Korea's top three charger makers with about 30% domestic share; renamed EVSIS after the deal.

Deal rationale

Lotte Data Communication said the purpose was to strengthen its mobility capabilities by entering EV charging, aiming to become a comprehensive mobility provider covering autonomous shuttles and EV charging (Inews24). Per Dealsite, the target's technical standing among domestic charger makers, expected EV demand growth and captive demand from Lotte affiliates (3,200 chargers required at Lotte Department Store and Lotte Mart, EV delivery vans at Lotte Global Logistics) were cited as drivers.
