Target

Signet EV, founded in 2016, manufactures ultra-fast EV chargers, obtained the world's first US certification for a 350kW charger in 2018, and was reported to hold over 50% of the US ultra-fast charger market; it was listed on KONEX.

Deal rationale

SK Inc. said it would secure high-quality charger manufacturing capability, pursue R&D and overseas expansion with group resources, and combine the group's semiconductor and ICT capabilities with Signet's charger technology ahead of autonomous EVs. An SK official said the Signet deal and the Polestar investment would make SK Inc. a core player in eco-friendly mobility. Per Hankyung, SK bought 1,620,087 existing shares from Rio Investment for KRW 81bn and 5.92m new convertible preferred shares for KRW 212.2bn.
