Target
SKC Future Materials was carved out of SKC's original film business (Korea's first PET film, 1977), film-processing subsidiary SKC Hi-Tech & Marketing and US/China sites; it produces advanced film materials for displays and mobile devices and was described as the world's No.4 by output.
Deal rationale
SKC said the film business kept growing on global competitiveness but 'differs from SKC's strategic direction,' and that the sale would reshape the portfolio around batteries, semiconductors and eco-friendly materials (inews24). Hahn & Co said at closing that completing the deal despite weak investor sentiment was meaningful and that it planned to raise SKC Future Materials' global competitiveness through active investment in green technology and stronger ESG management (Seoul Economic Daily). KRW 400 billion of acquisition financing was raised at low-7% rates; it was reported as Korea's largest PEF buyout closed in 2022.
